All About me!
Name: Eleanor. C. Lees
University Tutor: Lise H
Degree:
High 2:1 BSc (Hons) Psychology from Nottingham Trent University. I am now undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Primary) at Manchester University through the School Direct route.
Qualifications:
A Levels in Sociology (B), Psychology (C) and Geography (C) and AS Biology.
GCSE's: 5A's and 4B's
Pre-Course Experience
06/2011 and 05/2012- Pownall Hall School, Wilmslow (Independent School):
Reception and Year 2
Through my experience of shadowing teachers at Pownall Hall School, I acquired an understanding of to how to make lessons both interesting and challenging. Under the guidance of a teacher I worked with individuals and small groups outside the classroom to assist the children’s reading. Through my past experience of dancing, I was able to contribute to the choreography in the Christmas production which I believe improved my communication skills.
Key Learning Points
The advantage of extra support in the class to work with groups of children
10/2012- 02/2012- Sneinton Primary School , Nottingham (Academy School):
Year 1 and Year 3
Gaining experience in an academy school has enabled me to understand the importance of inclusion in the classroom. Teaching children from a range of backgrounds and abilities has made me realise the value of promoting the self esteem of learners, resulting in them contributing to class discussions and giving them a more meaningful school experience. At Sneinton I was also fortunate enough to assist the ‘Reading Recovery’ scheme which acknowledges the importance of targeting under-performing pupils and helping them to reach their reading potential.
Key Learning Points
Teachers must differentiate so their lessons are inclusive for all abilities. Careful planning is crucial to achieve this.
We should always seek to support the children and find ways to build self esteem and confidence
12/2012- Ashdene Primary School, Wilmslow (State School):
Year 2
At Ashdene I also worked with a range of year groups and therefore was able to experience the different teaching styles adopted by different teachers. I learned that it is important to ensure that the learning environment is both stimulating and engaging in order to inspire the children to learn. This can be achieved by interactive displays and resources.
Key Learning Points
Interactive displays and engaging teaching fuel the children’s imaginations and helps them learn
School- Based Employment
Pownall Hall School- After Care- 09/2010 - 07/2013
This involved me supervising the children and organising activities to keep them entertained until collected by their parents.
Pownall Hall School- Holiday Club- 07/2012-09/2012, 07/2013- 09/2013
This involved planning activities for the children to take part in throughout the day and, alongside another member of staff, look after the children until their parents collected them at the end of the day.
Other Information
· In spring 2012 I was asked by the committee of the Alderley Edge Speech and Drama Festival to take the role of a stage supervisor. This involved checking the attendance of the children performing, taking care of any problems that occurred before their performance and announcing to the judging panel and audience the children’s names and pieces.
· At the beginning of my second year of my degree, I put myself forward as a candidate for becoming a student representative for my Psychology course. After a short pitch in front of my fellow students I was successfully chosen. Being a student representative involved meeting with the lecturers two times a term to discuss any issues that I had been informed of by the students on the course. The lecturers and I then decide on an appropriate resolution and I then inform the students with the results by email and announcement at the beginning of a lecture. My role was crucial therefore for the communication between lecturers and students and helping to provide a better experience at the university.
· In January 2011 I successfully completed a social care training programme providing me with a certificate for ‘Child Protection and Safeguarding Children’ Level 1. This qualifies me to be competent and confident in carrying out responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting children’s and young people’s welfare.
